Abstrakt: Cílem této studie je prozkoumat hlavní formy, funkce a výskyt tzv. hedges oslabujících ilokuční sílu výpovědi v příslušném odborném vědeckém žánru, zejména v písemné prezentaci výzkumných zjištění v humanitním akademickém diskurzu, a tyto poznatky pak promítnout do oblasti výuky rozvíjející pragmatickou kompetenci v angličtině. Na základě polypragmatického modelu, respektive funkcí, které hedging v odborném diskurzu plní, se v analýze detailně věnujeme obsahově orientovaným prostředkům oslabujícím ilokuční sílu výpovědi. Výsledky pilotáže umožní kritickou reflexi a případnou revizi zvoleného výzkumného postupu.

Abstract: The aim of the study is to explore the main forms, functions and occurrences of so called hedges, i.e. devices weakening the illocutionary force of the utterance. We concentrate on hedging devices in academic writing, especially in the written presentation of research findings in the humanities. The findings of the study attempt to develop processes of acquiring pragmatic competence in English. Based on the polypragmatic model, i.e. the functions which hedging plays in academic discourse, the analysis investigates in detail content-oriented devices weakening the illocutionary force of the utterance. The results of the pilot study enable critical reflection and prospective revision of the selected research procedures.
