Title: PRELIMINARY RESULTS OF THE RESEARCH OF THE EFFICIENCY OF PHYSICAL EXPERIENTS AS INSTRUMENTS FOR LEARNING CONCEPTIAL NOTIFICATION
Abstract: The aim of this research is to compare the different forms of experiments used in teaching physics, in terms of how good they are for teaching physical concepts. It is primarily aimed at comparing demonstration experiments, video experiments and laboratory work. In the case of laboratory work, a closed form is then recognised, whereby pupils follow the exact instructions and a form more open to research. The main research question is whether there is a profile of a more effective experiment for teaching conceptual knowledge. Evaluating the effectiveness of physical experiments in terms of teaching physics and their impact on pupils is a very complex problem. The objectives that we try to achieve by conducting experiments in teaching physics are different (Hodson, 1990; Bennett, 2003). The examination of all these aspects of experiments or laboratory work seems too complicated from a technical point of view. It is a time-consuming process, which would hardly be able to be integrated into ordinary school teaching and would make it very expensive. We have therefore decided to limit the problem to examining the conceptual knowledge of pupils in connection with experiments. We have proposed a method that examines the effectiveness of individual forms of experiments in this respect. Research is mainly aimed at secondary school pupils and especially at gymnastics. We relied on the theoretical framework proposed by Millar (2008). On the basis of this, it is possible to conclude on the conceptual adoption of which experiments the pupils have memorized and to what detail. The basis of research is a qualitative approach. The method of data collection is a questionnaire. It is assembled so that its use is independent of the content of teaching. The pupils in the first part list on the basis of memorization of the experiments from the teaching, examining their number and form. In the second stage, they describe in more detail the experiment they selected. The credibility of the data found is enhanced by triangulation of interviews with the respondents‘ teacher. All questionnaires are encoded by two independent researchers and, if they do not agree, the contradiction is resolved by discussions between them and, if necessary, by another expert. From the preliminary results of comparing different forms of experiments in teaching physics it appears that laboratory work is generally not more effective than other forms of experiments (in terms of the efficiency of learning physical concepts of pupils). Although their adoption is significantly higher in some classes due to laboratory work than in other forms, it is clear that the context of the specific teacher and class plays an important role. Based on further data analysis it will be possible to further uncover the effectiveness of these forms. This analysis should be completed at the time of the conference.
