Title: Teacher’s social representations of burnout: burnout between experience and analytical category
Abstract: Teaching belongs to one of the most demanding profession in the terms of stress and therefore a large number of teachers are at risk of burnout syndrome. But what does the term burnout syndrome means? To answer the question is necessary to ask how teachers with a different experience of burnout understand the term burnout syndrome. This study therefore wants to answer the question of the nature of the social representation and the scientific concept of burnout. We present the results of the survey which included interviews with 46 teachers and the questionary completed by 2394 teachers. The results indicate that the social representations of burned-out teachers are quite similar to the scientific concept of a burnout, while the social representations of satisfied teachers are different. Satisfied teachers accentuate mainly the extrinsic level of burnout because the intrinsic level remains hidden to them.
