Title: TEACHERS’ COLLEGIAL SHARING: THE PERSPECTIVE OF SCHOOL LEADERS
Abstract: Professional development of teachers is a crucial issue of pedagogical psychology. Many studies are devoted to developing and verifying techniques for exchange of professional experience. In general, research results show that the exchange of experiences between teachers brings benefits both for individual development and for cooperation. The research consists of 1) series of case studies of 10 Czech schools and 2) on-line survey (N=2352). Within the case studies, data were collected using: observation of techniques, interview with the head of school, the supervisor and selected teachers who were supervised, and survey of all the teachers from the 10 schools. The results show that an approach of the head of school was identified as the key factor – a positive, sensitive approach helped to convince more teachers to join the supervision, while negative and/or top-down approach tended to make teachers hesitant to join the supervision.
