Title: REGIONAL DISPARITIES OF KNOWLEDGE AND ATTITUDES IN THE CZECH REPUBIC: ABSENTEEISM AND SCHOOL MOBILITY AS CONTEXTUAL FACTORS
Abstract: Growing regional disparities in quality of educational achievement are a serious problem in the Czech Republic. We explore two phenomena that could be used as indicators for the assessment of school context as well as student well-being in school: student absences and school mobility (non-normative between-school student transfers). Despite their importance, they remain largely underexplored within Czech social sciences. Quantitative data on absenteeism and student mobility patterns in the Czech educational system will be presented. Both promising indicators are compared across different regions of the Czech Republic and between deprived and non-deprived areas. This quantitative study is complemented by qualitative cases of schools and students.
