Mnozí autoři dále rozlišují tři druhy dovedností využití map – čtení, analýzu a interpretaci map (např. Hanus a Marada, 2014; Liebenberg, 1998; Muehrcke a Muehrcke, 1992; Wiegand, 2006).

Title: FACTORS RELATING TO THE LEVEL OF MAPE IMPORTS

Abstract: The main objective of this study is to identify factors that have proven to be decisive for the level of individual mapping skills based on the review of research carried out over the past 30 years. Analysis of these empirical studies will help to identify which factors are most commonly considered to be influencing the level of mapping skills and whether the research attention paid to them corresponds to the results and conclusions of these research. Moreover, based on the categorisation of studies according to the type of map skill tested, or age of respondents, it will be established whether the influence of identified factors depends on other variables. We are in visual age, which places increased entitlement to the education system, as it is necessary for pupils to develop a new type of literacy involving map skills. Hanus and Marada (2014, p. 416) define them as „a more comprehensive capacity of man (full of skills, experience, learning style, motives, experiences and knowledge) for different activities with the map ‚. We can primarily distinguish between activities linked to the use of already made maps and the creation of maps. Many authors also distinguish between three types of map usage skillsreading, analysis and interpretation of maps (e.g. Hanus and Marada, 2014; Liebenberg, 1998; Muehrcke and Muehrcke, 1992; Wiegand, 2006). To exploit the potential of maps, it is necessary to identify factors that may affect the success of the map. On the basis of the principle of cartographic communication, individual sub-factors can be broken down into three main groupsthe characteristics of the user of the map, the characteristics of the map and external factors (Pie, 1969; Wood, 1972). In this study, empirical research published between 1986 and 2016 was analysed to test the level of student mapping skills while verifying whether this level is dependent on certain independent variables. Overall, 64 research activities were identified, in which 92 factors were assessed cumulatively. These factors and the studies themselves were further categorised according to several aspects for the purpose of this review and conceptual maps were developed showing the frequency of evidence of the effect of individual factors and their possible consistency with other variables examined. The results of the study showed a significant number of factors affecting the level of mapping skills. The factors characterising the users of the map were most identified. In addition, some of them (gender and age of the student) are among the factors most frequently demonstrated. However, external factors and factors characterising the selected map have also been found, which have a proven effect on the level of map skills, including the method of teaching, the complexity of the map or the type of skill tested. It is not so surprising that factors specific only to some type of map skills have been further identified.
