Title: THE EDUCARE CONCEPT AS A THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK FOR AN INTEGRATED APPROACH TO CARE AND EARLY LEARNING FOR CHILDREN AGED 0–3
Abstract: The paper addresses the long-standing fragmentation of care and early learning in services for children under the age of three and presents a theoretical conceptualisation of EDUCARE as an integrated framework for working with the youngest children. It focuses on the Czech context of children’s groups and presents the results of a critical interpretative synthesis of international scholarly literature in the fields of the new sociology of childhood, sociocultural theories of learning, and ethics of care in early childhood (ISCED 010). The EDUCARE concept is operationalised as a multi-level model linking the perspectives of the competent child, the competent caregiver, and the competent system of early childhood education and care. The paper demonstrates how EDUCARE can serve as an integrative framework for educational research and practice.
Keywords: concept EDUCARE, early learning, children’s groups, competent systems, quality in early childhood institutions
