Abstrakt: Příspěvek prezentuje dílčí výsledky šířeji pojatého výzkumu zaměřeného na zkoumání souvislostí mezi školním a stínovým vzděláváním. Cílem příspěvku je analyzovat faktory, které u učitelů 2. stupně základních škol a nižších gymnázií souvisejí a) s vykonáváním výdělečných pracovních aktivit nad rámec jejich pracovních povinností ve své škole; b) s poskytováním placených hodin soukromého doučování.

Title: The “teacher moonlighting ” phenomenon and the role of private tutoring
Abstract: Teacher moonlighting (teachers working at other jobs in addition to their teaching to supplement salaries) may be associated with negative aspects such as teacher dissatisfaction, tiredness, attrition or inability to fulfil their teaching responsibilities. Provision of private tutoring is one of the common ways for teachers to supplement their salaries (Kobakhidze, 2018). The aim of the paper is to analyse factors that are associated with a) having a paid job additional to the regular teaching obligations; b) provision of private tutoring lessons. Results are drawn from a sample of 494 teachers of academic school subjects in lower secondary schools (both basic schools and multi-year gymnasia) who responded to online questionnaire survey. Of the total sample, 36 % of teachers (n=180) reported having additional paid jobs, and 29 % (n=145) reported provision of at least one private tutoring lesson in the current academic year. However, their motivation to do so was not solely financial.
