Považujeme za nezbytné, aby učitelé: 1. disponovali odbornými poznatky ohledně podstaty mentalizace, jakožto podmínky sociálních a personálních kompetencí, 2. chápali mimořádný význam mentalizace pro úspěšný výkon učitelské profese i důsledky její eventuální absence, 3. reflektovali míru vlastní mentalizace včetně rozpoznání situací, v nichž mentalizaci ztrácejí, 4. dokázali průběžně, uvědoměle a aktivně pečovat o její rozvoj.

Title: Mentalization and its importance in the context of a school

Abstract: In this paper we discuss the importance of the ability of mentalization for succesfull performance in the teaching profession. According to emerging research evidence in the field of developmental neuropsychology, mentalization is considered an ability, determining development of all other personal and social competencies – e. g. all the skills that people need to establish, maintain and develop functional interpersonal relationships in their personal and professional life. At the same time, social competences (and mentalization) represent the target categories in the Czech educational system. Thus, teachers carry considerable responsibility for the development of these competences in their pupils. We suggest, that teachers 1. should become acknowledged with the nature of mentalization and it’s importance for the development of both their own social and personal competences and those of their pupils; 2. should understand the huge importance of mentalization for the successful performance of the teaching profession, 3. Should be able to assess the consequences of its absence and have an awarness of specific situations in which they lose mentalization, 4. should be able and willing to continuously, consciously and actively care for its development in themselves and their pupils.
