Title: Psychological Aspects of University Failure
Abstract: University failure, especially in bachelor’s programs, is currently a problem that is addressed not only by universities, but also by the ministry and the government, but also by the general public. In the Czech Republic, the failure of studies appears most in the first two years of bachelor studies, where the quality of adaptation to the higher education system plays a major role. We map out what personal risk factors may be related to failure at university. The research was conducted in two phases. In the first one, semi-structured interviews students were conducted. Individual interviews were analyzed in the Atlas.ti program and the obtained codes became the basis for the questionnaire used in the second phase of the research. Descriptive and test methods were used for statistical evaluation. The obtained data identified individual factors of failure and uncovered some risk factors of the student at risk. Research shows, that failure has been related to risk personality factors and personality motivation factors and also with factors related to the student’s study history.
