Title: Parents and Nursery Schools. Changes of Parents’ Expectations Directed Toward Teachers and Nursery Schools after 30 Years
Abstract: The paper reflects on the relationships between nursery schools and families after 30 years of democracy in the Czech Republic. The study observes the expectations of contemporary parents – higher education graduates – directed toward nursery schools and their teachers, as gained via the strategy of an individual case study of one nursery school. Based on the analysis of the data gained from the interviews with 5 parents, as well as from the analysis of the responses from 33 parents on 4 open questionnaire items, it is obvious that parents have the ambition to monitor and check the individual development and education of their children. They ask for detailed information about their children and the school, which sometimes leads to conflicts with the teachers´ capacities and signal the limitations of their pedagogical autonomy.
Keywords: Relationship between nursery schools and families, change, parents´ expectations
