Abstrakt: Cílem výzkumu bylo zjistit, zda historické videohry mohou změnit explicitní a implicitní postoje hráčů k zobrazovaným historickým událostem. Pro potřeby této studie byla upravena hra Československo 38-89: Vnitřní pohraničí, která pojednávala o odsunu sudetských Němců z českého pohraničí po Druhé světové válce z různých úhlů pohledu. Empirická studie ověřovala vliv této hry na explicitní a implicitní postoje hráčů k dané události ihned po zahrání a také měsíc po intervenci ve srovnání s kontrolní skupinou.

Title: Video games and their effects on players ’attitudes towards history: Long-term empirical study
Abstract: This study investigates a video game’s effects on implicit and explicit attitudes towards depicted historical events in the shortand long-term on a sample of 148 young adults. As an intervention tool in the experimental group, we have used serious game Czechoslovakia 38-89: Borderlands dealing with the expulsion of Sudeten Germans from the former Czechoslovakia after the WWII. Results of our empirical study confirmed the effect of our video game on players’ explicit attitudes towards the expulsion on a gene ral level (d=-0.34) and a specific level (d=-0.53) compared to the control group. The difference between the control group and the experimental group in a long-term remained significant only for the specific level (d=-0.44) of explicit attitudes. Implicit attitudes did not change in the experimental group. This study is the first of such scale to empirically investigate video games’ effects on a society’s historical awareness.
