Abstrakt: Konferenční příspěvek si klade tyto cíle: 1. Představit inovativní metodologický přístup overclaiming technique a jeho základní principy. 2. Představit, k jakým účelům je tento přístup využíván v současném výzkumu. 3. Poskytnout přehled oblastí, ve kterých byl tento přístup dosavadně aplikován. 4. Prezentovat možnosti využití overclaiming technique v oblasti cizího jazyka za účelem porovnávání znalostí jazykově zaměřených a nezaměřených žáků.

Title: Possibilities of using the overclaiming technique in educational research: an application for the domain of language knowledge
Abstract: Overclaiming technique is an innovative methodological approach, originally proposed as an alternative measure of socially desirable responding. The basic idea is that respondents assess their familiarity with a set of items on a rating scale. Some of the items are actual (existing) concepts from a particular field of knowledge (e.g. history) and some of the items (about 20%) are non-existing words. In recent research, the approach has also been used as an indicator of individual dishonesty, alternative method of scholastic assessment, and an indicator of differences in scale usage among different groups of students. The approach has been used in a variety of domains such as mathematics, personal finance, geography and ICT. We overview the main findings of the current research on the overclaiming technique and present the possibilities of its use in foreign language domain with the aim of comparing knowledge of language oriented and other students.
