CO NOVÉHO UKÁZAL VÝZKUM INTERAKCE VE TŘÍDĚ?

Sekce 1: TEORIE A METODA V PEDAGOGICE

Title: WHAT DID THE NEW RESEARCH OF INTERACTION IN CLASS SHOW?

Abstract: The aim of the contribution is to present selected outputs from the research project „Interactions in the teaching of English at a university“ (GA CZ 1508857S) and to link them to existing theoretical frameworks and empirical findings of this area. Emphasis will be placed on findings that enrich or problem the current state of knowledge, especially in the context of teacher and student dialogue, IRF structure, interaction during student presentations and subsequent discussions, and interaction in pairs. The findings will be illustrated on selected data samples. The research project, the selected results of which are presented in the contribution, builds on an ethno-methodological conversational analysis (for details and context with class interaction research see Thouma, 2016), which focuses on the details of the ongoing interaction and allows to explore mutual understanding between participants who play an important role in school teaching (e.g. Macbeth, 2011). The main areas of interest in the conversion analysis are the organisation of replica rotation, sequences, repairs and preferential organisations (Auer, 2014, Chapter 13). Summary of current state of knowledge in foreign research can be found in recent publications (e.g. Gardner, 2013; Markee, 2015). The conversion analysis works with the interaction captured on the record, which represents the primary source of data for it. The analytical process begins with a detailed transcription and analysis of the record in which the researcher reveals how the participants interact, focusing on the main areas of interest in conversational analysis (see Theoretical Basis). By comparing the analysis sequence with other sequences, the findings relating to the methods used by speakers in the interaction are improved. The contribution covers the selected results of a three-year research project covering selected aspects of class interaction. These findings are related to existing class interaction research frameworks and discussed how the presented findings in relation to used theoretical starting points and method enrich or problem the existing state of knowledge in domestic and foreign research in the field of findings concerning the IRF structure, student reports, frontal teaching or couples.
