Title: The Position of Senior University Teachers at Czech Universities

Abstract: The study describes a representative survey of Czech senior university teachers. The aim was to identify the reasons they still work for a university, in which fields they work, and which ranks they serve. Furthermore, we explored how universities make use of expertise of these teachers. The sample consisted of 320 respondents aged 65 to 89 years, who work at 20 universities. They data were gathered through an interview and a questionnaire. The most interesting findings concerned they views of younger colleagues. In their opinion, the young generation of university teachers is very narrowly specialized, which results in limited knowledge and constricted perspectives, sometimes they also lack basic knowledge in the field. They have high self-confidence, some egoism and impatience, worse ability to cooperate and communicate in a team. On the other hand, they have excellent grasp of foreign languages and brilliant computer skills.
