Title: WHO IS THE PROBLEM FOR OTHERS? STUDENT’S PERCEPTION OF DIVERSITY IN CLASSROOMS
Abstract: The study draws on the School4All project and analyses how students (N = 704) from 34 lower-secondary and upper-secondary classes perceive the disruptiveness of different forms of difference among classmates. The questionnaire asked whether the presence of a peer with one of eleven types of difference would be disruptive. Neurodiversity and mental health were perceived as most disruptive (45%), whereas religion was perceived as least disruptive (9%). The analyses further examine associations with classroom diversity levels and students’ trust in the school’s ability to manage diversity-related conflicts.
