Title: Biographical work of non-traditional students who re-entry university after previous unsuccessful university experience
Abstract: In the background of the European higher education system, the drop-out is perceived negatively by institutions and governments as it has an economic cost (Merill, 2015). Within this context, student drop-out is often viewed as an individual failure rather than an institutional one (Quinn et al. 2005). From the student perspective, drop-out may not always be negative as benefits may be gained (Merill, 2015) as evidenced by students in this study: leaving university marked an important biographical transition in their life. It thus raises questions about what is meant by a successful student experience of higher education (Merill, 2015). The paper aims to examine biographical narratives of non-traditional students who have a previous unsuccessful university experience. Students in the sample are at least 26 years old and had a break in their educational biography. The analysis is based on two concepts: biographical work (Thunborg & Bron, 2019) and biographicity (Albeit, 2018).
