Abstrakt: Výzkumy ukazují, že žáci odborných středoškolských programů mají horší výsledky než žáci všeobecných programů i tehdy, když zohledníme jejich vstupní výsledky a rodinné zázemí. Možné příčiny lze hledat v klimatu školy. V této studii je klima školy, respektive třídy operacionalizováno prostřednictvím akademické marnosti a akademického optimismu.

Title: Factors influencing the results of secondary school students. Influence of futility culture and academic optimism
Abstract: Research shows that pupils in vocational programs have worse results than pupils in general programs, even if their initial results and family background are taken into account. Researchers see the possible causes in the school climate. In this article, the school climate is operationalized through a culture of academic futility and academic optimism. We examine whether the culture of academic futility and academic optimism affects the performance of third-year students of grammar schools, and secondary vocational schools in mathematics and reading literacy, taking into account their family background and initial knowledge. The analysis using multi-level modeling is performed on a set of 2846 pupils from 143 classes in 79 schools who were administered tests and questionnaires at the beginning of secondary school and then again in the middle of the third year. The results confirm the effect of academic futility on student achievement and show slight differences for both subjects.
